Stubborn Slumbering Sweetness

When you choose to not nap, I suppose by the end of the day a ride on the lawn mower will just take it out of you! Too bad by the time I reached the front door he woke and exclaimed "No! Ousside!" After a drink of water he was back at it. I have no clue where his energy comes from!

Weaning

Jaxon loves his paci and blanky. AKA his sassy and ginky. For a while now he's only had them for naps and bedtime, and the occasional upset that only they can fix. I was really in no rush to take the pacifier away, I had mine until I started kindergarten. So I can relate to being so attached. Lately I had been thinking maybe we'd warm him up to the idea that they are for babies and when the new baby came he could 'give' his paci's to he/she. After thinking a little more on that idea, I wasn't so sure. I imagine adjusting to a new baby in your house, that isn't leaving and taking your mama's time and attention will be hard enough. And if that baby took your most favorite thing? Probably not a good outcome. So I just dropped it. Well a week ago saturday we were at one of my friends' house. When it was about time to leave I asked Jaxon where his paci was. He looks around and calmy says "Doggy. Sassy!" Sure enough, the dog was chowing away on the pacifier. I didn't worry and threw it away, knowing we had spares at home. But then on the way home, a new idea came to me. We could try this as an attempt to rid of the paci. I was a bit nervous that he would totally freak out, and then I of course would just break in to the stash of extras and life would be better again, for all of us. I mainly felt bad that he didn't know that last time he had it, would be the last time. That'd be like someone telling me all of a sudden I couldn't have french fries ever. again. I'd be devastated! And if I'd known the last time I was eating them that it was the last, you bet I would have savored every last fried salty potato goodness! Alas, he probably wouldn't have understood if we told him it was the last time anyway.

So it's been a week and a half paci free. The doggy ate it and we threw it away. He still asks for it occasionally, so certainly hasn't forgotten about it. No serious meltdowns though, and he still has his blanky. Now if he would just not be so stubborn and take regular naps and not be so wakeful at night, we would have a good system!

Jaxon was rummaging through the pile of stuff to be put in the attic. Had to try out the baby seat for the tub! I was sure he would have a hard time getting out, but when I came back from putting the camera inside he was on the other side of the garage playing with something else, so he couldn't have had much trouble!

Belated Birthday Post

Last Friday the little man of the house celebrated his 2nd birthday. Whether I was ready for it to or not, it came and went. His day started with french toast for breakfast and then hanging out with his cousins Gwen and Owen while my sister Mistie and I cleaned the house and made food for the party.

Family and friends joined us at our house about 5:30p. We snacked, visited, he opened gifts and then we did cake. I think it went pretty well being he didn't have any serious meltdowns. OK, maybe he did have one that I can think of.

happy 2 year old

the drill we spent a whole 10 bucks on was his fav..of course!

wadding up tissue paper and throwing it was a highlight as well

My first try at a 'homemade' cake. I did ice cream this year since he isn't much a fan of cake. It went over well with him! But that may have been because it was green and had a John Deere on it.

blowing out his candles

I believe this was encouraged by his father..
